Kansas Chiefs exercise option on Dontari Poe contract

The Kansas City Chiefs use the option to extend the contract of defensive tackle Dontari Poe into the 2016 season following his impressive three years at the club.

The Kansas City Chiefs have exercised the option to extend Dontari Poe's contract into the 2016 season.

The 24-year-old was selected in the first round of the 2012 Draft by the AFC West side and has become an integral part of their defense in his first three seasons at the club.

Poe has been voted to the Pro Bowl in the past two years, which has prompted Andy Reid's men to extend his contract until the end of the 2016 campaign for a fee of $6.1m (£4m).

The defensive tackle has recorded 134 tackles and 10.5 sacks in his three seasons in the NFL.
