The Indianapolis Colts have announced that they have signed quarterback Matt Hasselbeck to a two-year contract.

The 37-year-old, who was released by the Tennessee Titans earlier this week, will earn $5m (£3.3m) during the 2013 season.

General manager Ryan Grigson said in a statement: "His body of work, intangibles, and extensive league experience speak for themselves.

"Those factors, plus his familiarity with our offensive scheme, will make him a great asset to our team and its vision as we move forward."

Hasselbeck will serve as backup to Andrew Luck, who played his first season in the NFL last year.
