Chuck Pagano: 'Robert Mathis can bounce back from Achilles injury'

Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano believes that linebacker Robert Mathis is capable of bouncing back to his best despite suffering an Achilles injury last year.

Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano has backed linebacker Robert Mathis to bounce back to full fitness from his Achilles injury.

The 34-year-old missed the entire 2014 season as he sustained the injury last September, training by himself after being banned for four matches for the use of performance-enhancing drugs.

However, Pagano believes that Mathis is more than capable of delivering his best form in the 2015 campaign, despite the severity of the injury.

He told the club's official website: "When he gets cleared, we'll get him back on the grass. Then when we get him back, we've got to be smart with how we get him back in the lineup and those type of things.

"Time will tell. I'm not Kreskin or Nostradamus. I don't know. I'm not trying to be a jokester. I don't know. If anybody can do it, I'm putting my money on him."

Mathis has recorded 487 tackles, 111 sacks and one interception in his 12 years in the NFL.
