Matt Schaub feared injury was "a lot worse"

Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub says that he feared his leg injury would be worse than expected.

Matt Schaub has said that he thought his leg injury was "a lot worse", having been forced off the field at the weekend.

The Houston Texans quarterback left the team's 38-13 loss to the St Louis Rams in the third quarter, and has been receiving injections to ease the pain in his leg and ankle.

The 32-year-old told reporters: "I just got some lower leg, ankle, and foot things. My foot got rolled up on pretty good there. My ankle got rolled upon the sack by Chris Long pretty good and just had a round of treatment today. I got evaluated by the doctors.

"I am day and night working on things, getting treatment, doing things at the house, in the training room early, making our trainers get up in the middle of the night to come in so I can get a little extra.

"I'm going to do that because that's where we are at as a football team and that's the way that I'm built so that's the way I'm going to approach it."

The Texans are preparing backup quarterbacks TJ Yates and Case Keenum in case Schaub is unable to play against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
