Cincinnati Bengals survive Jacksonville Jaguars fightback

The Cincinnati Bengals hold off a late comeback from the Jacksonville Jaguars for a 33-23 win in the NFL.

The Cincinnati Bengals survived a fourth-quarter comeback from the Jacksonville Jaguars to secure a 33-23 win in the NFL this evening.

After a quiet start to the game, Toby Gerhart got the Jaguars into a strong field position, allowing Josh Scobee to kick a field goal and give the visitors the lead.

The Bengals were soon on the board too as Andy Dalton threw the ball down the middle for Mohamed Sanu, whose touchdown put the home side ahead.

AJ Green, who was returning after several games out with a toe injury, thought that he had scored a second touchdown for the Bengals shortly after, but an offside call meant that they had to settle for a field goal.

A mix up on a punt just before the break by Jacksonville gave the Bengals a safety, leaving them nine points ahead at half time.

The AFC North side continued to look the stronger team at the start of the third quarter as Jeremy Hill ran the ball in to increase their lead.

However, the Jaguars quickly cut the lead, with Bortles finding rookie wide receiver Allen Hurns down the other end less than a minute later.

Green did manage to mark his return with a touchdown in the fourth quarter, as Dalton sent a long pass forward for the wide receiver, who just squeezed into the endzone.

Cincinnati came under pressure late on though as Hurns managed to haul in another touchdown pass before a Dalton interception set up Denard Robinson for a short rushing touchdown, leaving Jacksonville just three points behind.

Hill shook off a string of tackles to score his second touchdown and give the hosts a 10-point cushion again with the first play after Robinson's score, sprinting 60 yards for the endzone.

It proved a winning touchdown, as a late pass from Bortles looking for Hurns again was picked off, allowing Cincinnati to run the clock down.

The result leaves the Bengals at the top of the AFC North, while the Jaguars slip to a 1-8 record.
