Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton wants to be more of a leader during the 2013 NFL season.

Andy Dalton has said that he plans to take more control of the Cincinnati Bengals during 2013.

The quarterback has led the side to the playoffs during his two seasons with the organisation, but head coach Marvin Lewis has previously called for him to be more a leader within the team.

The 25-year-old told the team's website: "The biggest thing I can do is take more control. Whether it be on the practice field or during a game, whatever it is, I need to step up and really show my leadership. That will be big.

"The more you play, especially being a quarterback, the more you're going to become a leader on the team.

"The expectation is to get to the playoffs, that's how it's been since I got here. We've got to take that next step. We've got to go in with an attitude that we're going to do whatever it takes to win the game. Hopefully we get that chance this year."

The Bengals have lost in the wildcard round of the playoffs during the last two seasons.
