Marvin Lewis: 'Andy Dalton exit just a precaution'

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis insists that withdrawing quarterback Andy Dalton with a neck injury in a pre-season game was "just precautionary".

Marvin Lewis has insisted that Andy Dalton's withdrawal from the Cincinnati Bengals' pre-season game against the Chicago Bears was "just precautionary".

The AFC North side's starting quarterback played just one drive in the 21-10 win, ending in a one-yard sneak for a touchdown that left him with a sore neck.

The head coach told reporters: "He's fine. Taking him out was just precautionary."

Dalton has reached the playoffs with the Bengals every year since being drafted in 2011, but has never won in the post-season.
