Dave Gettleman will leave the New York Giants to be the new general manager of the Carolina Panthers.

The Carolina Panthers have announced that Dave Gettleman will be their new general manager.

Gettleman is currently the senior pro personnel analyst for the New York Giants.

Panthers owner Jerry Richardson said in a statement: "I was very impressed with Dave's experience and think he will be a very good fit for our organisation.

"He has an extensive background in personnel and comes from an organisation in the New York Giants that I hold in high regard, and he played an instrumental role in their success."

The Panthers finished the year second in the NFC South, winning their last four games in a row, but were rarely considered a playoff contender throughout the season.
